How to knit an Easter egg with knitting needles — 5 diagrams

If you decide to please your loved ones with a small gift for the Bright Sunday of Christ, try knitting an Easter egg with knitting needles.
To knit an Easter egg, you only need a couple of hours of free time and very little yarn. You can use any leftover bright colors.
Any synthetic filler for pillows or soft toys is suitable for stuffing. But the easiest way is to use a blank made of polystyrene.

Tools and materials

  1. Yarn of different colors (50 g/160 m. or 100 g/320 m).
  2. Double pointed needles, size 3 mm.
  3. Large needle for sewing yarn.
  4. 8.5 cm styrofoam egg or any material for stuffing soft toys.
  5. Spray.

Knitting pattern

The pattern is knitted with facial loops in a circle on stocking needles. As a strapping, you can use a thread of the same color. But it is better to choose a colorful drawing. An egg with a pattern will look more elegant.

The rapport of the pattern should correspond to the number of loops in the knitted egg.

I suggest choosing one of five schemes.

Step 1: Cast on 8 stitches and divide between 4 needles. Knit 1 round.

Step 2: *Inc1* x 8 times by knitting 2 stitches into one stitch (16 stitches total).

Knit 1 round.

Step 3: *Knit 1, inc1L, knit to last stitch, inc1R, knit 1* repeat rest of 3 needles;
Knit 1 round.

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 until you have 16 stitches on one needle, ending with an increase round. If you use a styrofoam egg for filling, test it – does it fit if you stretch it?

Step 5: Knit 8 rounds. If you use a styrofoam egg then on 6th round try it – it should cover half of the ball (with stretching). If you have less or more, then you need to adjust your knit rounds accordingly.

Step 6: When using a styrofoam egg, now is the time to leave it inside your work. If you use soft filling, no need to worry about it yet.

*Knit 1, k2tog, knit to last 3 stitches, ssk, knit 1* repeat rest of 3 needles;

Knit 2 round.

Step 7: Repeat Step 6 until you have 4 stitches on one needle. Using soft filling – stuff your Easter egg.

*k2tog* x 8 times

Step 8:

Cut yarn leaving enough for sewing. Take a sewing needle and bring yarn through all stitches. Tighten up and wave in.
