How to knit a heart softie?

Different Heart Sizes Using the exact same knitting pattern, you can have fun creating heart softies in different sizes. Simply change your yarn gauge and knitting needle size.

Feel free to use any size yarn and needles for your creative project. My stitch sample was created with size 4 knitting needles and weight yarn Merino Top Valeria de Roma (125 m/100 g) , along with a Tapestry Needle and Scissors.

Step 1: make two heart ‘humps’ Long Tail Cast On 3 stitches

1 row: Knit All

2 row: KFB, P1, KFB (5 stitches)

3 row: Knit All

4 row: KFB, P3, KFB (7 sts)

5 row 5: Knit All

6 row: KFB, P5, KFB (9 sts)

7 row: Knit All

8 row: KFB, P7, KFB (11 sts)

9 row: Knit All

Cut yarn move first hump down your needle. Repeat rows 1 – 9 to make 2nd hump  Place both humps on the same needle (22 sts).


Step 2: knit body of heart.

You have 22 stitches on your needle.


10 row: K1, P20, K1

11 row: Knit All

12 row: K1, P20, K1

13 row: K1, SSK, K16, K2Tog, K1 (20 sts)

14 row: K1, P18, K1

15 row: K1, SSK, K14, K2Tog, K1 (18 sts)

16 row: K1, P16, K1

17 row: K1, SSK, K12, K2Tog, K1 (16 sts)

18 row: K1, P14, K1

19 row: K1, SSK, K10, K2Tog, K1 (14 sts)

20 row: K1, P12, K1

21 row: K1, SSK, K8, K2Tog, K1 (12 sts)

Knit one more heart shape.


Step 3: sew two heart shapes together

Once you have knitted up two of your heart shapes, to make up the front and back of your sachet, simply tack them together with the right side of your pieces facing together with yarn using your tapestry needle.


Step 4: fill hearts with stuffing

Turn your heart right side out and fill it up with either stuffing, or bits of yarn, and close them up.
